Miesha Theresa Tate is an American mixed martial arts expert. Miesha Theresa Tate is an American martial artist who is a mixed-matrix. Born in Tacoma, Washington, she was very involved in sport throughout her childhood. Based on a recommendation by one of her close friends, as she was studying at Central Washington University she began to take part in the mixed martial art group. At the age of 20 she participated in her very first amateur match in a match against Elizabeth Posener, who specialized in Muay Thai. In the following year she made her debut as a professional in the one-night HOOKnSHOOT Women's Grand Prix. She took home her first FCF Women's Bantamweight Championship after two years. Tate received praise and admiration for her style of fighting which was a blend of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as wrestling. Soon after, her popularity increased when she was the first female to win the Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Championship. Alongside her professional career in mixed martial arts she has also been a model for various publications and websites including 'ESPN The Magazine' and 'Fitness Gurls'.
